One of the ancestors of the Nauts family settled in "Brunsheim" almost three hundred years ago. The stories tell that the family originally came from the border area between Tyrol (Austria) and South Tyrol (Northern Italy).

In today's South Tyrol lies the town of Natz (municipality of Natz-Schabs), which bore the name "Nautz" in the period from 1288 AD to 1533 AD. The noble family "Von Nouces" lived in this town. The family became "extinct" in 1340 AD in the region concerned.  Probably the descendants moved through Austria and Germany to the "low countries". The name Nautsch and Nautz currently occurs in Germany, while the name Nauts occurs in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

It is known that Areth was born in Brunssum in 1759 as a descendant of the Nauts family. Areth currently leads the family tree of the Nauts family from Brunssum.
